Simone, Success, and Sportmanship
Gymnastics in Paris is done. Simone cemented herself as the G.O.A.T. with another four medals. Team USA earned the Team Gold. Simone, Suni, Jordan, and Jade all earned individual medals. Beyond the medals, many moments captured so many fundamentals that we aim to teach our gymnasts at ASI.
- Success comes in many forms. The obvious mark of success in Paris is a gold medal. The Beam Final showed us a different kind of success. Both Suni and Simone fell during their beam routines. When they fell, they lost any hope for an individual medal. What did they do? They got up and finished with grace, poise, and confidence. We love moments where we get to teach gymnasts that sometimes success means finishing what you started even if the result isn’t what you wanted.
- Sportsmanship will never go out of style. In a world where athletes all have brands and success means more sponsorships and more opportunities, Simone and Jordan smashed that by bowing down to Rebecca Andrade when she took the gold in the Floor Final. When Jordan took bronze, Simone celebrated more for her friend than she did when she found out she was taking home silver. One of our biggest goals for our gymnasts is to instill the values of being a good teammate and celebrating others’ achievements.
- Sports are one of the greatest things for children. Whether you end up a successful CEO, world-class athlete, or first-grade teacher, sports can create a foundation for anything life will throw at you. Sports teaches you how to fail forward, have work ethic, and be a good teammate.
