What is the difference between a recreational class and Team?

A recreational class is an hour long class that meets once a week. Team, depending on the level, meets from 2-25 hours per week. In team, the child will not only learn and perfect skills, but will put those skills in to routines for competition. Team gymnasts will compete in gymnastics meets at a local, state, regional and national level.

When are evaluations to move up a level in Team?

If you are currently enrolled in the Team program, evaluations are performed at the end of the meet season. All Team gymnasts have the opportunity to move up a level during the summer training time; however all final level decisions will be completed by August 31st.

When can I join the Team program?

You can join Team at any time of the year. Once a child has completed the Gold level, they are eligible for Team. An evaluator will decide which level of Team is most suitable for your child.

Can a child join team any time of the season?

Yes! They will compete when they are ready and if they join after the last order of uniforms have been placed, they will wear their practice leotard to all the meets.

If we miss a team practice, do we get a makeup?

If the coach cancels practice, they will reschedule a makeup at a later date. If you miss a class, you may schedule a makeup class in a power tumbling class that has availability. Each student receives three free makeup classes per calendar year.

When are the gymnastics meets?

Gymnastics meets are typically held from February through June.

Is my child required to attend all of the gymnastics meets?

All regular season competition fees are included in your tuition, so it is to your benefit to attend each meet offered. All local meets are required and all away meets are strongly encouraged. Please be sure to let your child’s coach know as soon as possible if you are not able to attend a meet. Be aware that missing some meets may result in not qualifying to state, regional or national championships.

Do we take an ASI Gymnastics van to competitions?

The parents are responsible for their children’s transportation to and from a gymnastics meet.

When will the competition schedule be released each year?

We have to wait on USAG to announce the meets for the season. Once they have done so, we will immediately put together a schedule and release it to you. Typically it will be ready in October.. At the beginning of each season, a meet schedule will be posted on www.asigymnastics.com under the ASI Meets page.

I see there are two days listed for each meet; will my child compete on both days?

No, your child will compete on either Saturday or Sunday. She will attend one session that day that will last about 4 hours.

When will I find out which session my daughter will compete in?

The final meet schedule will be released 10 days prior to the meet weekend.

Does ASI compete in USAG?

ASI competes in 3 different leagues (TGGA, TAAF, & USAG) in order to accommodate gymnasts of all levels and provide them plenty of opportunities to compete. All leagues compete the same routines and are judged under the same rules. Your child’s meet schedule may include meets in one, two, or all three of these leagues based on a number of different factors.

What is USAG?

USAG is USA Gymnastics. USAG meets are held nationwide and all ASI Teams will compete in USAG meets starting at level 4.

How are the team awards determined at meets?

When teams enter a meet, their coach enters them as either a small team or a large team. A small team consists of 3-6 gymnasts and the top 3 scores on every event are added together to determine their team score. A large team consists of 7 or more gymnasts and the top 5 scores on every event are added together to determine their team score.

Fee and Uniform Questions

How much will my meet fees and coach’s fees cost?

Your monthly Team tuition includes registration fees, meet fees and coach’s fees for all regular season meets. Therefore, you will not incur any outside expenses besides your child’s workout, competition uniforms and any outside meets your team chooses to attend.

What does my daughter need to wear during Team practice?

Your child will wear the ASI Team workout leotard. The workout leotard is specific to the team program and can be ordered through our ASI Store. This will be worn during Team practice ONLY.

Do we have to purchase competition uniforms?

Yes, each student is required to purchase all pieces of the Team uniform. However, uniforms can be used from year to year as levels 5-6, 7, and 8-Elite each have their own set. The competition uniform for athletes is the uniform that will be worn during gymnastics meets only. They will not wear this uniform during practice.

What uniforms items are required?

Girls will need to purchase a workout leotard, workout capris, competition leotard, competition jacket, nude briefs, and a competition bag. Boys will need to purchase a competition tunic, competition pants, warm up jacket, workout shirt and shorts, warm up pants, and a bag. All sizing will take place during a scheduled time at your gym. Once your child has been sized you will order your uniform on the ASI Store.

How much does the workout leotard cost?

The workout leotard is $64.00 plus tax.

How much does the competition uniform cost?

The competition uniforms range from $400 – $600 depending on the level of the gymnast.

When is payment due for the competition uniforms?

In order for the uniforms to arrive in time for the first official meet of the season, full payment is due at the time of sizing. You will receive and email with sizing and ordering information.

Is there anything I can do to offset tuition or uniform costs?

Every parent has the opportunity to earn tuition credit by working ASI hosted meets. Adults earn $25 tuition credit per session and children ages 10 and above earn $15 tuition credit per session. Tuition credit will be applied to your account for every session worked. On average we host about 14 meets per year.

In addition, many team parents have started Booster Clubs that provide fundraising opportunities to help offset uniform and travel costs.

How do I sign up to work meets?

Do I have to pay admission to see my child compete?

Yes, everyone ages five or older must pay an admission fee for entrance to the meet.
