In Loving Memory of Coach Jo Poole

In Memory of Coach Jo

It is with heavy hearts that we inform you, Joanne Poole, better known as Coach Jo, has passed away. While we don’t have any specific details at this time, we feel certain Coach Jo went peacefully.

Joanne Poole was born on July 2, 1993. She graduated from Texas High School in Texarkana, Texas and went on to The University of North Texas in hopes to work in counseling. During high school is when she fostered her love of sports. She played basketball, flag football, and also ran track.

Coach Jo had an infectious smile and laugh that lit up every room she entered. Her gift was shared across the world where she worked with children in Thailand teaching English and provided care and rehabilitation for elephants and monkeys.

Coach Jo’s passion for the sport of gymnastics and children lead her into a coaching career at ASI Gymnastics. She was universally loved by all coworkers, parents, and especially kids. She had an incredible gift for communicating and motivating her students. Children of all ages reacted immediately to Jo’s warmth, energy, humor, and kindness. You could catch her dancing at all times. Her love for kids will stay in the hearts of the gymnasts that she coached during her four-year career at ASI Gymnastics. The culture of love, fun, grit, and carefree happiness she created at Plano West is a legacy that will live on.

As you speak with your children, some may want to write a letter, draw a picture, or express some sort of love towards Coach Jo. We have been in touch with her sweet Mom and she has given us her address, in the event, you would like to send something.

We wish we were all together during this difficult time to help the best console all children, staff, and families. Once the pandemic subsides and we are able to open the gym doors again, we will host a celebration of life for Coach Jo.

Information regarding a memorial service will be announced on this site as soon as we have more details. Please keep Jo’s family, loved ones, and friends in your thoughts during this time of grieving.

Since ASI is currently running at limited capacity, please feel free to check back here for updated information.

We encourage you to offer a special hug to your child today, one for Coach Jo.

2019 Scholarships Awarded

We are excited to announce that the 2019 recipients of the Mike DeLuke and Daniel Jimenez scholarships were selected in January. Each application was carefully examined in search of a child that truly met the criteria laid out by the families of these precious young men. ASI Gymnastics Children’s Charities is thrilled that these children will be able to experience the joys of gymnastics through these scholarships.

If anyone would like to make a donation to ASI Children’s Charities in honor of one or all of these young men, or if you just want to learn more about them, go to ASI Children’s Charities.

The Damian Shelton Scholarship is still currently accepting applications. This scholarship will give a child with special needs the opportunity to experience gymnastics in our Gymmie Kids program for one year. Apply Here.
