Beyond the Scores: A new and improved meet scoring system

We are so excited to announce a new scoring system this year for the 2013-2014 meet season. We are now using software called Beyond the Scores to bring you an even better experience during every meet we host at ASI Gymnastics. This online system is able to bring you the complete meet schedule online, and you can view the results right after the meet. In addition to this online system, the scores will now be displayed on flat screen TVs around the gyms. This scoring system will be much easier to read and follow during the meets.

The most important part for you, the parents, is that Beyond the Scores also has a mobile app! That’s right! You will now be able to get instant access to your child’s scores straight from the judges!

It’s FREE to download the app, and you have the option to pay $1.99 per meet to track the scores. Once you have downloaded the app, you can follow the guided tour for all the information you need to track your child’s progress.

How to follow your child:

  1. On the Favorites list, click Add in top right corner.
  2. Click Add Athlete.
  3. Search for your ASI location and click on the name.
    ASI Gymnastics – Arlington
    ASI Gymnastics – Allen
    ASI Gymnastics – Firewheel
    ASI Gymnastics – Keller
    ASI Gymnastics – Lake Highlands
    ASI Gymnastics – Mesquite
    ASI Gymnastics – Plano West
    ASI Gymnastics – Rockwall
    ASI Gymnastics – The Woodlands
  4. Search for your child’s name and click on their name. An orange star will appear to the left of their name.
  5. Click Close.
  6. Your child will be listed under the Favorites tab. You can now track your child’s progress throughout the season, view their meet schedules, track progress by team, and view team based results for each meet.

You may also want to follow each member of your child’s team throughout the meet season. If so, there is no extra fee to follow more than one child.

Please keep in mind that even if you do not choose to pay to track your athlete’s progress each meet, you will still be able to view the scores on the flat screens in the gym. We hope you all enjoy this new experience during meets this season! Good luck to all of our fantastic Athletes!

Holiday Camp, a gift for Mom and Kids

School is out, Camp is in at ASI Gymnastics. Bring the kiddos to Holiday Camp. Your kids will have a great time bouncing on the trampolines and swinging on the rope as they play games, all while learning gymnastics. They also participate in team building activities, group games, and fun problem solving.

We offer two sessions per day from 8am-1pm and 1pm-6pm. Ages 3+. A snack is provided for each child per session. Kids in the morning session will need to bring a sack lunch.

Holiday Camp runs until January 6, 2014 at most ASI locations.

Meets postponed due to winter storm and power outages

The Girls TGGA Practice Makes Perfect Meet, originally scheduled for December 7-8, 2013, has been rescheduled for April 12-13, 2014. The Boys Blast Off Meet is rescheduled for April 13, 2014.

Both meets were postponed due to the extreme arctic blast that struck the Dallas Fort Worth area Thursday evening. The sleet and ice have caused widespread power outages.

“We have three 3 locations without power as of Friday. In addition, numerous staff and customers are reporting power outages. Providing power and heat seems to be more important at this time,” said David Holley, CEO of ASI Gymnastics.

The Girls Practice Makes Perfect meet will now be held at ASI Allen. The Boys Blast Off meet will be held at ASI Plano West. Session details will be released as we get closer to the meet date.

The TGGA State Championships will now be held on April 26-27th. The meet locations remain unchanged.

Meet Season kicks off Saturday!

After six months of patient anticipation, the time has finally come. All the hard work, hours of training, and months of preparation have finally paid off. ASI Gymnastics could not be more excited to announce the beginning of the 2013-2014 meet season! The gymnasts, coaches, staff, parents, and meet director have been working so hard these past few months, all leading up to this weekend, and they can’t wait to show you what they’ve been working on.

The girls’ season kicks off with the TGGA Practice Makes Perfect Meet on Saturday, December 7 at ASI Firewheel. Many girls will be in attendance from ASI and other area gyms. The boys’ season begins on Sunday, December 8 at ASI Plano West with the TGGA Boys Blast Off Meet. We are so excited for all of our talented gymnasts to compete for the first time this season and to show off their new skills for Mom, Dad, family and friends.

We want to do everything in our power to make sure that these meets are a fun experience for our athletes and their loved ones. We will once again be taking pictures throughout the meets and posting them on Facebook. Don’t forget to like us on Facebook for complete up-to-date information. We will also be tweeting the results this year so you can also follow us on Twitter.

Concessions will be provided by Bold BBQ Pit at both the Boys Blast Off Meet and Practice Makes Perfect Meet.

We will even have a few vendors on site for the girls meet, including Fine Design Custom T-Shirts and GK Elite Sportswear. Wound Up Cafe will be on site too, so no need to stop for coffee on the way in!

We are very excited for a fun and exciting meet season for all of our team gymnasts, parents and coaches. Good luck to all the amazing gymnasts this weekend!

Coach’s Corner: Lauren Kamper

Lauren Kamper has been a part of the ASI Family for almost 16 years. This is especially impressive since she’s only 22! Lauren started taking classes at ASI Mesquite when she was 6 years old, back when pogs and beanie babies roamed the earth. She was on the competitive team until she was 12, and she started coaching at ASI when she was in high school. After she went off to college at Texas A&M, Lauren worked seasonally as a Survivor Camp coach whenever she was home.

Quote from Lauren

“ASI has always been a part of my life. It was so good to know that I could always come home to my ASI Family during holiday breaks. It is a well-established company that is growing fast, but still values its employees and cares for them.”

When she graduated from A&M with a degree in Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences, with an emphasis in Youth Development and a minor in Business, she was offered a full-time position in the Business Operations department. She is now the Business Lead at ASI Rockwall, and it’s the perfect fit!

Quote from Lauren

“It was so wonderful to receive a career within my major that provides excellent benefits for my health and well-being. I have health insurance, a steady income, and I get to use my relational skills and my administrative skills. Now I get to see the gym from a business perspective, but I’m still involved in the lives of children every day!”

Lauren coaches classes, trains new employees, and is responsible for other administrative tasks involved in running the Rockwall gym, like scheduling, purchasing, and payroll support. She is also a team leader, so she gets to influence and support the Rockwall staff to be the best coaches they can be for our students.

Quote from Lauren

“ASI provides the opportunities for young adults to be involved in the physical and personal development of children while developing their own careers and professional skills. I would encourage people to apply at ASI because I can think of nowhere else that your job is so fulfilling, meaningful, and fun.”
