Coach Courtney Shaw has made a huge impact on ASI Allen in her year and a half of coaching.  Courtney describes her coaching style as “silly, structured, and strict.”  It is possible to be all three!  She coaches every program except Tiny Tots.  Her passion for the sport shines through her enthusiasm on the floor.

“Gymnastics is more than just competing to win. It makes you mentally and physically tough.”  Courtney was a part of the University of Baylor Acrobatics and Tumbling Team in college.  Her favorite event to coach is Vault.  Outside of the gym, Courtney enjoys reading the Harry Potter series, running, snowboarding (outside of Texas), and wake boarding.

Arlington

Attentive, fun, and detailed Coach Mercedes Boykin has been a staple at ASI Arlington for the last five years.  She coaches a variety of classes and fun products.  Kids Gym, Girls Recreational Gymnastics, all levels of Competitive team, Open Gym, Birthday Parties, and the resident chief promoter of our Parents’ Night Out, Mercedes does it all with a smile on her face and a leadership style that everyone wants to follow.

“It’s a challenging sport that makes you feel accomplished once you’ve mastered a skill. This allows you to become a more well-rounded gymnast. Each new skill only makes you a stronger athlete.”

Her favorite event to coach is Floor.  She loved to tumble and be graceful in her floor routines when she competed.  Now she loves to pass on those traits to all of her gymnasts.  Her daughter, Morgan helps foster her love of children.  five-year-old Morgan is currently competing on Arlington’s Level 1 team.

Her love of kids, gymnastics, and ASI continues to grow. “I worked at another gymnastics facility that closed suddenly.  It must have been fate because ASI hired me on the spot. I’ve worked here for five years and continue to grow daily. I am honored to work for a company that allows me to grow into a more developed employee.”

Progress Checks: One less thing on your to-do list

ASI restructured our Girls Recreational Program with the release of the Gold Standard last September. We centered our program around the fundamentals of athletic development.  Our program now is more focused on strength and conditioning as well as the use of progressions in training all of our skills.  We also have the program structured with lesson plans that provide a focus on each event for two weeks.  This allows optimal training on each and every skill in your child’s level. We now enter the next phase of improvement with our Progress Checks.

ARLINGTON

4-year-old Nolan , Nolie to her friends and family, has been with ASI Arlington since her Tiny Tots days in 2014. Once a week Nolie bounces into ASI Arlington with her curly hair and bright smile ready for gymnastics. She most looks forward to the trampolines and pit, but her favorite skill is her “pose.” Her mom, Brooklyn loves that gymnastics teaches her discipline and listening skills.

“We wanted to put them into something where they had to learn to listen to someone else besides mom or dad.” Nolie’s brother, Reid enjoys his Tiny Tots class while Nolie does her Kids Gym 2 class with Coach DeeDee.

While enjoying the seasonal soccer or t-ball, Nolie had to make a choice between dance and gymnastics. Brooklyn let her choose and the choice was clear for both mom and daughter.

“It’s affordable and the coaches and staff are awesome. You can’t beat that. She talks about ASI all the time outside of the gym.”

Johnny’s mom found ASI Mesquite through research, but once Johnny reached the Boys Team program, she knew she had made the right choice!

“Once he joined the boys team, I was impressed by the boys team coach’s dedication. In a year’s time, Johnny has gone from knowing nothing to level 4. ASI has skilled, friendly coaches.”

Hadley’s love of gymnastics and dance shined this past November at the Gymmie Kids Meet when she did her floor routine and pulled out the popular “Whip and Nae Nae” during her routine. The crowd went wild!

Hadley’s mom absolutely loves what ASI has done for Hadley.

“Hadley is learning patience, building character, adapting and learning new skills, becoming physically stronger, improving her listening skills, and enjoying her time at ASI. Initially, we chose ASI for the after school program. We love that Hadley and Hayden are picked up from school, have dedicated time for homework, snack time and enjoy free play.

Now, we LOVE ASI as the coaches and staff are family. It warms our hearts to see how happy Hadley is when she arrives and leaves ASI. The coaches (you know who you are!) have worked so hard with Hadley to help her grow and consistently reach new milestones. Hadley is given the chance to shine and be herself. In a special needs world, that is not always a given. We are grateful, blessed and thankful for your roles in her life and in her heart.”

5 reasons the ASI FREE Preschool Open House is the place to be on Jan. 22

ASI Gymnastics will host it’s FREE Preschool Open House January 22 from 10:30am-12:00pm. Kids ages 1-5 can run, play, jump, swing, balance, and tumble with our staff of fun, knowledgeable, and caring coaches. Our sales team will be there to assist with enrollment. Speaking of enrollment, by attending this event, your enrollment fee will be waived! Still not convinced? Here are 5 reasons to attend Preschool Open House:

1. Nap time will be extra long! Increased activity will exhaust your child. Our staff will ensure this by helping your child through a fun circuit of gymnastics, playing in a foam pit, jumping on the trampolines, playing with the parachute, and an overall introduction to our preschool gymnastics programs.

sleeping toddler

2. Physical activity increases gross motor skill development. Crawling, walking, jumping, throwing, and climbing will all develop faster with increased physical activity. In our preschool classes we focus on developing these skills through safe, structured, fun physical activity. Our open house will introduce you and your child to how we achieve this at ASI.

motor skills

3. Physical activity increases brain development. Studies show that just 30 minutes of routine aerobic activity in children improves reaction and choice-response tasks. Children involved in physical activities from an early age are better problem solvers and more focused than their peers.

baby genius

4. Time with other adults! You love your children. But if you have to watch one more episode of Paw Patrol, you might scream. Preschool Open House and our classes will allow you time with other parents. Talking about something other than Doc McStuffins and snack time will do you some good.

mom meme

5. It’s FREE! There’s no obligation to enroll. Come enjoy coffee (for the adults), juice, snacks, and gymnastics free of charge. We want you and your child to come have a safe, fun experience at one of our 10 locations. At ASI we love what we do and we want you and your child to have as much fun as we do.
