Meet Season kicks off Saturday!

After six months of patient anticipation, the time has finally come. All the hard work, hours of training, and months of preparation have finally paid off. ASI Gymnastics could not be more excited to announce the beginning of the 2013-2014 meet season! The gymnasts, coaches, staff, parents, and meet director have been working so hard these past few months, all leading up to this weekend, and they can’t wait to show you what they’ve been working on.

The girls’ season kicks off with the TGGA Practice Makes Perfect Meet on Saturday, December 7 at ASI Firewheel. Many girls will be in attendance from ASI and other area gyms. The boys’ season begins on Sunday, December 8 at ASI Plano West with the TGGA Boys Blast Off Meet. We are so excited for all of our talented gymnasts to compete for the first time this season and to show off their new skills for Mom, Dad, family and friends.

We want to do everything in our power to make sure that these meets are a fun experience for our athletes and their loved ones. We will once again be taking pictures throughout the meets and posting them on Facebook. Don’t forget to like us on Facebook for complete up-to-date information. We will also be tweeting the results this year so you can also follow us on Twitter.

Concessions will be provided by Bold BBQ Pit at both the Boys Blast Off Meet and Practice Makes Perfect Meet.

We will even have a few vendors on site for the girls meet, including Fine Design Custom T-Shirts and GK Elite Sportswear. Wound Up Cafe will be on site too, so no need to stop for coffee on the way in!

We are very excited for a fun and exciting meet season for all of our team gymnasts, parents and coaches. Good luck to all the amazing gymnasts this weekend!

Coach’s Corner: Lauren Kamper

Lauren Kamper has been a part of the ASI Family for almost 16 years. This is especially impressive since she’s only 22! Lauren started taking classes at ASI Mesquite when she was 6 years old, back when pogs and beanie babies roamed the earth. She was on the competitive team until she was 12, and she started coaching at ASI when she was in high school. After she went off to college at Texas A&M, Lauren worked seasonally as a Survivor Camp coach whenever she was home.

Quote from Lauren

“ASI has always been a part of my life. It was so good to know that I could always come home to my ASI Family during holiday breaks. It is a well-established company that is growing fast, but still values its employees and cares for them.”

When she graduated from A&M with a degree in Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences, with an emphasis in Youth Development and a minor in Business, she was offered a full-time position in the Business Operations department. She is now the Business Lead at ASI Rockwall, and it’s the perfect fit!

Quote from Lauren

“It was so wonderful to receive a career within my major that provides excellent benefits for my health and well-being. I have health insurance, a steady income, and I get to use my relational skills and my administrative skills. Now I get to see the gym from a business perspective, but I’m still involved in the lives of children every day!”

Lauren coaches classes, trains new employees, and is responsible for other administrative tasks involved in running the Rockwall gym, like scheduling, purchasing, and payroll support. She is also a team leader, so she gets to influence and support the Rockwall staff to be the best coaches they can be for our students.

Quote from Lauren

“ASI provides the opportunities for young adults to be involved in the physical and personal development of children while developing their own careers and professional skills. I would encourage people to apply at ASI because I can think of nowhere else that your job is so fulfilling, meaningful, and fun.”

Student Spotlight

Student Spotlight: Maria Lopez

Maria with her coach, Jazmyn

Maria Lopez is a 7th grader at Scott Johnson Middle School, but every Saturday morning she is the life of the party at ASI Allen. This M&M lover was a witch for Halloween, but don’t let that fool you” she is a total sweetheart. Maria started taking Gymmie Kids classes at ASI when she heard about it from a friend in the program about 5 years ago. Her relationships with her coaches, her love of the trampolines, and the significant progress she’s made over the years keep her coming back!

Quote from Maria

“I love to bounce!”

Gymmie Kids is an adaptive gymnastics program for children with special needs. Maria has Downs Syndrome, and it can be difficult for her to participate in a standard gymnastics class, so she recieves one-on-one lessons with Coach Jazmyn every week. They work on typical gymnastics skills and specific drills that help Maria meet her individual goals.

Quote from Maria

“I love to learn the new moves they teach me!”

Jazmyn helps Maria develop strength at the bars, cardiovascular stamina and spatial awareness on the trampolines, and confidence and balance at the beams. Just a few weeks ago, Maria walked all the way down the balance beam, sideways, by herself! Maria, you rock!

Coach’s Corner: Jazmyn Conejo

Jazmyn Conejo is a rockstar coach at ASI Allen. In addition to coaching gymnastics classes and serving as the Gymnastics After School Supervisor in Allen, she also trains new coaches and supervises Survivor Camp when school is out. Jazmyn is a student by day, coach by mid-afternoon to evenings, and on the weekends, she has a blast putting on awesome Birthday Parties and Parents Night Out events.

Quote from Jazmyn

“One thing I really love about working at ASI is that I get to do so many different, important things! I’m learning so much about how to lead a team and be a supervisor, it fits perfectly with my schedule, and I still get to come into work every day and play with kids! I’m so lucky!”

On top of all that, Jazmyn’s favorite part of her job is coaching children with special needs through our incredible adapted gymnastics program, Gymmie Kids. Her positive energy is contagious, and she gets to pass it on to all kinds of kids that come into our gym.

Quote from Jazmyn

“I’m really loving coaching my Gymmie Kids classes right now because I’ve learned so much in the training process and I think it’s such an important program. Kids need and deserve creative options to get fun, safe exercise and build self confidence, and I feel so fortunate to be a part of that. Every time I work with these kids, I come out grinning from ear to ear. It’s the highlight of my week.”

Jazmyn makes a huge difference in the lives of so many kids, and she really shares and exemplifies ASI’s mission to provide the best gymnastics instruction possible to each child at their level. Jazmyn is the kind of employee any gym would want on their team, and we love to recognize her hard work with gift cards, incentives, new responsibilities, and other fabulous benefits. Because she’s a student, Jazmyn also takes advantage of our Education Assistance plan. ASI is a strong supporter of education and personal development, so all employees are eligible to apply for reimbursement of expenses associated with college tuition, fees, and books.

Quote from Jazmyn

“My job is so many things. It’s stress relief after a long day of classes, it’s professional development and work experience, it’s got great benefits, it fits my schedule and my personality, and most of all, it’s a family that I’m so lucky to be a part of.”

Well, we feel lucky to have in you in the ASI family too, Jazmyn!

ASI Introduces “Safe Fun” Campaign

At ASI Gymnastics, safety is our number one priority as we pursue our mission to provide the best gymnastics instruction possible to each child at their level. ASI Safety Education depends on cooperation among staff, parents, and participants. Today, ASI Gymnastics introduces a new safety awareness campaign, “Safe Fun at ASI Gymnastics.” We believe that the best kind of fun is safe fun, and our customers and their children deserve nothing less than the best.

“We are happy to enhance the communication of Safety in a fun and innovative way. We continue to integrate technology and involve the parents, kids, and staff in providing a very safe, fun, high-quality program,” says David Holley, CEO of ASI Gymnastics, Inc.

The goal is a safe learning experience at ASI Gymnastics. This is achieved when coaches, support staff, management, parents, and children all work together to respect common-sense guidelines built on mutual respect, trust, engineering, education, and enforcement. All staff members take Safety Education classes during training and certification, and continue their safety education for the duration of their employment at ASI, because our commitment to safe fun is firm and constant.

The “Safe Fun” campaign includes messages and tips posted on the TVs in the gyms, on posters, on our website, and on social media. We want to communicate our commitment to safe fun in any way we can, because increasing awareness is essential to enhancing our ability to keep everyone in the ASI Family safe.

Everyone has a role in implementing “Safe Fun.” Staff members give verbal instructions while supervising all activities at ASI Gymnastics. Parents provide support while honoring and respecting the “Safe Fun” Guidelines. Students are kept safe and learn discipline and respect while following the “Safe Fun” rules. These primary rules and guidelines will help all visitors to ASI enjoy “Safe Fun.”
